Connection Problems
Having trouble connecting your social accounts? This guide covers platform-specific issues and solutions.
General Troubleshooting
Section titled “General Troubleshooting”Before platform-specific fixes, try these:
- Clear browser cache and cookies
- Try incognito/private mode
- Disable browser extensions (especially ad blockers)
- Use a different browser
- Check the platform isn’t having an outage
Platform-Specific Issues
Section titled “Platform-Specific Issues”Instagram Connection Issues
Section titled “Instagram Connection Issues””Instagram Business Account Required”
Section titled “”Instagram Business Account Required””Personal Instagram accounts can’t be connected for auto-publishing. Convert to Business or Creator:
- Open Instagram app
- Go to Settings → Account
- Tap “Switch to professional account”
- Choose Business or Creator
- Reconnect in Postiv.io
”Facebook Page Required”
Section titled “”Facebook Page Required””Instagram API requires a linked Facebook Page:
- Create a Facebook Page (if you don’t have one)
- In Instagram app: Settings → Account → Linked Accounts
- Connect to Facebook
- Select your Page
- Reconnect in Postiv.io
”Insufficient Permissions”
Section titled “”Insufficient Permissions””When connecting, make sure to accept ALL permission requests. If you declined any:
- Go to Facebook Settings → Apps and Websites
- Find Postiv.io → Edit permissions
- Grant all requested access
- Reconnect in Postiv.io
Posts failing after connection worked
Section titled “Posts failing after connection worked”- Check token hasn’t expired (reconnect)
- Verify Page is still linked to Instagram
- Ensure you still have admin access to the Page
Facebook Connection Issues
Section titled “Facebook Connection Issues””No Pages Found”
Section titled “”No Pages Found””You need admin or editor access to a Page:
- Make sure you manage at least one Facebook Page
- Verify your role: Page Settings → Page Roles
- You need Admin or Editor role
- Reconnect in Postiv.io
”Page Not Appearing in List”
Section titled “”Page Not Appearing in List””If your Page doesn’t show during connection:
- Check you’re logged into the correct Facebook account
- Verify your role on the Page
- Disconnect Postiv.io from Facebook
- Reconnect and select all Pages
To disconnect and reconnect:
- Go to Facebook Settings → Apps and Websites
- Find Postiv.io → Remove
- Reconnect in Postiv.io
Connection keeps expiring
Section titled “Connection keeps expiring”Facebook tokens may expire if:
- Password was changed
- Security settings were updated
- You removed the app and re-added
Solution: Reconnect when prompted
LinkedIn Connection Issues
Section titled “LinkedIn Connection Issues””Session Expired”
Section titled “”Session Expired””LinkedIn tokens expire every 60 days. This is normal:
- Go to Settings → Connected Accounts
- Click “Reconnect” on LinkedIn
- Log in to LinkedIn
- Authorize Postiv.io
Company Page not showing
Section titled “Company Page not showing”You need admin access to the Company Page:
- Go to your LinkedIn Company Page
- Click “Admin tools” at top
- If you don’t see this, request admin access
- Reconnect in Postiv.io
”Unable to post to profile”
Section titled “”Unable to post to profile””LinkedIn occasionally restricts API posting. Try:
- Disconnecting and reconnecting
- Waiting 24 hours
- Posting manually to verify account isn’t restricted
X/Twitter Connection Issues
Section titled “X/Twitter Connection Issues””Application Not Authorized”
Section titled “”Application Not Authorized””- Go to Settings → Connected Accounts
- Disconnect X/Twitter
- Reconnect and accept all permissions
Rate limit errors
Section titled “Rate limit errors”X has strict rate limits. If you see rate limit errors:
- Reduce posting frequency
- Spread posts throughout the day
- Wait 15 minutes and try again
Posts being rejected
Section titled “Posts being rejected”X may reject posts that:
- Look like spam
- Are duplicates
- Violate content policies
Vary your content and avoid posting the same thing repeatedly.
Threads Connection Issues
Section titled “Threads Connection Issues””Instagram Account Required”
Section titled “”Instagram Account Required””Threads connects through your Instagram Business/Creator account:
- Ensure Instagram is connected first
- Make sure it’s a Business or Creator account
- Threads should appear automatically
Threads not appearing as option
Section titled “Threads not appearing as option”- Your Instagram account must have Threads enabled
- Check you’ve set up Threads with that Instagram account
- Meta is still rolling out API access
Posts failing on Threads
Section titled “Posts failing on Threads”Threads has specific content requirements:
- Text posts up to 500 characters
- Some content types not yet supported
- Check error message for specifics
Authentication Errors
Section titled “Authentication Errors””Access Denied” or “Permission Error”
Section titled “”Access Denied” or “Permission Error””The platform blocked access. Solutions:
- Review and accept all permissions during connection
- Check you’re logged into the correct account
- Clear browser data and try again
- Disable VPN if using one
”Invalid Token” or “Token Expired”
Section titled “”Invalid Token” or “Token Expired””Your authorization has expired:
- Go to Settings → Connected Accounts
- Find the affected account
- Click “Reconnect”
- Complete authorization again
”Account Suspended” or “Restricted”
Section titled “”Account Suspended” or “Restricted””The social platform has restricted your account:
- Log into the platform directly
- Check for any notices or warnings
- Complete any verification required
- Once resolved, reconnect in Postiv.io
Firewall & Security Issues
Section titled “Firewall & Security Issues”Connection timing out
Section titled “Connection timing out”Corporate firewalls may block OAuth connections:
- Try from a different network (mobile data)
- Ask IT to whitelist Postiv.io domains
- Use a personal device on personal network
”Callback URL mismatch”
Section titled “”Callback URL mismatch””This is usually a temporary glitch:
- Refresh the page
- Clear browser cache
- Try incognito mode
- Try a different browser
After Fixing Connections
Section titled “After Fixing Connections”Once connected successfully:
- Test with a single post before scheduling many
- Check the Activity Log for any warnings
- Set up notifications for connection issues
- Save backup codes if 2FA is enabled on platforms
